The hazard assessment is based on the U.S. EPA's DfE (Design for Environment) program, using the GreenScreen method to classify hazards into 5 major categories and 18 individual indicators, including:
- Chronic Toxic Hazards
- Acute Toxic Hazards
- Environmental Toxicity
- Environmental Fate and Transport
- Physical Hazards
Each Hazard Is Rated On A Five Level Scale:
- Very High Hazard (vH) – score 5
- High Hazard (H) – score 4
- Medium Hazard (M) – score 3
- Low Hazard (L) – score 2
- Very Low Hazard (vL) – score 1
To enhance visualization, the five major categories and their 18 hazard indicators are scored from 5 to 1 based on severity. A higher hazard receives a higher score. If the total score is high (indicating high hazard), the color appears closer to
deep red
; if the score is low (indicating low hazard), the color appears closer to
deep green
The data is presented using a Sun burst chart. The inner ring represents the total score of each main category. If a category has no available hazard data for this chemical, it will be omitted to focus the viewer’s attention. Clicking a main category in the inner ring will zoom into all hazard indicators under that category.
